Rosibel Carvajal was born in Heredia, Costa Rica, in 1966. Daughter of Soleída Chavarría and Álvaro Carvajal, she showed an early inclination for the arts, participating in dance, acting, and school parades. Despite struggling with stuttering, her mother, following the advice of her school principal, encouraged her to sing.
